Watchmaker with tradition

Ein altes Bild der Familie Eble

They still exist in the Black Forest, families that have been committed to the centuries-old tradition of clock making for several generations.

In the Eble family, it's the fifth generation - with Gustav Eble being the first since 1880.

The Eble watchmaking family - since 1880

The Eble family witnessed the development of the Black Forest clock and the boom in its production.

As in many places, the parlour was also the workshop, which was only fully residential on Sundays when the workbenches were cleared along the windows. Today, people talk about a "tooth chamber" where the gear wheels were made. The clocks produced could already be sold in a separate shop around 1900 (see historical photo).

But even earlier, the Black Forest clocks travelled a long way to their destination. Clockmakers, who were also clock carriers, took the opportunity to take their goods to the Rhineland and Holland with the raftsmen. On the way back, they visited their customers and repaired their clocks. Eble clocks were even delivered to Russia.

The difficult times of the world wars with a lack of orders also had to be overcome. Meanwhile, the Eble watchmaking family was given the gift of tinkering and daring. Confidence in their own skills was always their strongest asset.

They always seized the opportunity to expand and modernise. From humble beginnings, the company grew to the current clock park with the new attraction in the Black Forest: the world's largest cuckoo clock was built - in a 5-year construction period by Ewald Eble and his son Ralf. Today, the world's largest cuckoo clock is one of the sights in the Black Forest.

Just like the Black Forest clock in the past, delicate little clocks, cuckoo clocks, wall clocks, sturdy grandfather clocks with their magnificent architecture and equipped with the latest technology now make their way from here all over the world.
